St Francis of Assisi – The Tao of the Tau Cross

St. Francis of Assisi is my favorite saint of all time. Born the son of a rich merchant, he required for nothing for the duration of his misspent youth. St. Francis knew sin, and liked ingesting and parties. An extremely likeable younger guy, he caroused nightly with a massive group of close friends who indulged in vice and debauchery.

Nonetheless, St. Francis’ daily life was destined to belong to God, and a number of situations in his lifetime, like a severe sickness, tremendously changed him. He renounced sin, and started to reside in abject poverty, placing no retail outlet in materials points. He established the order of the Dominican Friars, and his symbol was the Tau Cross.

At a single position, Saint Francis stretched out his arms and introduced to his Dominicans that their spiritual routine, or tunic, was in itself the Tau cross, and represented their lifelong devotion to God. In his mission of administering the gospel to the lepers, the the very least of society, the Tau Cross grew to become identified for its defense versus the plague and other disorders. A good believer in the compassion of Christ, and regarded for his rapport with animals, St. Francis adopted the Tau Cross – which appears like a Greek “T” – as his crest, symbolizing his pledge to provide God and man.

Saint Francis lived to be only 44 many years previous, and for the duration of the very last yrs of his lifetime he was pretty much blind and quite unwell. Two several years prior to his loss of life, he was to receive the stigmata, the real and agonizing wounds of Christ in his fingers, ft and aspect.
